Defensive mistakes forced FLC Thanh Hoa to pay sharply as they succumbed to a 1-3 defeat against Becamex Binh Duong in the final match of the 2018 Vietnamese National Cup tournament at Tam Ky stadium, Quang Nam province on October 15.

Before joining the Vietnam national squad for the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup, young goalie Bui Tien Dung was entrusted by manager Duc Thang and listed in the starting lineup.

It had seemed to be a golden chance for Dung to show himself off to fans and national coach Park Hang-seo, but he finally caused great disappointments, taking the blame for two of the three goals (16’, 66’) conceded by FLC Thanh Hoa following his careless handling of the ball.

The remaining goal for Becamex Binh Duong was scored in the 38th minute, with Ho Sy Giap making use of Dinh Dong’s mistake to fire a shot past keeper Tien Dung. Meanwhile, Pape Omar earned a consolation for the Thanh Hoa side with a late first-half strike.

The convincing 3-1 victory brought home the National Cup trophy and VND1 billion (US$43,000) in prize money for Becamex Binh Duong, while FLC Thanh Hoa walked away with VND500 million as the runners-up.

As the National Cup champions, Becamex Binh Duong will represent Vietnam to participate in the 2019 AFC Cup, and will play the National Super Cup match with V.League champions Hanoi FC.
