(VEN) - Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province has signed many international cooperation agreements with the Republic of Korea (RoK), including four key deals with Queyang District, Jeollanam-do, Ansan City and Pohang City. Vietnam Economic News’ Hai Anh talked with Moon Byung Chul, a representative from the RoK Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
What are your plans to promote cooperation between Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and RoK localities?
RoK companies such as Posco Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Lock & Lock have strengthened investment in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. In addition, an RoK oil and gas group is deploying activities to promote resource exploitation at sea in the province. This proves that Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province has strongly invested in infrastructure to attract foreign investors.
International cooperation agreements between Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and RoK localities such as Kwangyang-gun, Ansan-si and Pohang-si are seen as a basis for the two sides to implement specific cooperation projects in the future. As a representative from the RoK Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, I will devise cooperation projects through local organizations. In addition, the province will see opportunities to strongly export agricultural products and seafood to the RoK in the coming time. Therefore, supporting provincial export-import companies to catch up the opportunities is needed.
The RoK currently ranks fourth among the countries investing in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. How has the province supported RoK companies? What is your recommendation to improve the province’s investment environment?
Due to the differences in terms of culture, RoK companies have faced difficulties with Vietnamese procedures. To improve the investment environment, local agencies need to adopt positive measures to overcome difficulties facing enterprises.
The Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province People’s Committee can organize dialogue with RoK companies to receive comments and resolve difficulties. In addition, to improve competitiveness, the province can promote investment in infrastructure and develop the educational sector.
If local infrastructure is getting better and the difficulties facing enterprises are timely resolved, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province will attract more foreign investors.
RoK companies have regularly organized charitable activities in impoverished localities. What sort of things will you do in the short run?
Through the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other economic organizations, we are deploying corporate social responsibility activities. The province also has many programs to support needy families.
The province can directly ask the RoK Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City or the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry for helps in each specific circumstance.
