(VEN) - An automated multi-functional heat pump system has helped improve the quality of bee honey products and reduce drying time and costs in the preliminary processing and preservation stages.
Dr. Vu Ke Hoach from the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Cao Thang Technical College said bee honey and pollen bring economic benefits to beekeepers. However, fresh pollen has a moisture content of more than 30 percent, so it is quick to rot and ferment. In addition, honey has a water content of 23-30 percent, making its preservation harder. Therefore, it is necessary to dry the honey and pollen immediately after the harvest.
Because of the different states of honey (liquid, solid) and pollen (solid and granular), the two products are dried in separate pieces of equipment. In addition, the efficiency of pollen drying equipment is very low as pollen is only harvested by season, while honey is harvested all year round. Moreover, the current pieces of drying equipment are manually operated, resulting in low quality drying.
The design and manufacturing of the automated multi-functional heat pump system therefore contributes to upgrading the quality of bee honey and pollen to export standards.
The pollen drying time has dropped to 3.5-4 hours per batch with power consumption of 0.6-0.7kWh per kg, while the drying time of honey has fallen to 45-60 minutes per batch with power consumption of 0.14-0.16kWh per kg.
The automated pump system has been used in many processing establishments, such as Tien Giang Province’s Cuu Long Bee Co., Ltd., Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s Tuan Thao Honeybee Co., Ltd., and Binh Duong Province’s Vina Ong Joint Stock Company.
The automated multi-functional heat pump system is considered an effective solution to help beekeepers reduce post-
harvest losses and improve production efficiency, especially in rural and remote areas.
