State President Truong Tan Sang welcomed a contingent of Associated Press (AP) journalists on June 11 who are visiting Vietnam to stage an exhibition of more than 50 gripping images of the US War.

“The AP contributed significantly to changing the American and international community’s opinion on the US war in Vietnam through its real-time reporting from its Saigon bureau” Sang said at the reception.

The exhibit will run June 12-26 at the Exhibition Hall, 45 Trang Tien St., Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi and will feature images telling the human story behind the conflict drawn from AP’s much-acclaimed photo history, 'Vietnam: The Real War'.

In the aftermath of the war and in the past two decades of established relations the AP has continued to play an instrumental role in enhancing mutual understanding between Vietnam and the US, Sang said.

AP journalist leading the group, Gary Pruitt, in turn said at the conclusion of the exhibition all of the photos would be presented to Vietnam museums.

The AP won six Pulitzer Prizes for its coverage of the war in Vietnam, four of them for photography./.
